Report on the province of Aleppo and its surroundings 17/05/2012


1. Rural Aleppo- Balnteh- martyrdom of:

Qadoor Mohammad Qadoor
Jumah Turki son of Jumah
Turki Jumah son of Jumah
Martyred early this morning in Saraqeb, their funeral took place in Balnteh

2. Salah Al Din/ Al Mashihad- ‘Abd Al Haleem Turmaneeni’

3. Salah Al Din/ Al Saalhin- ‘Mohammad Abd Al Fattah Haffar’

Both were martyred at the hands of Assad thugs in the evening demonstration that took place in Salah Al Din neighbourhood.


1. Aleppo university/ Adonis way- three cars filled with armed security waiting for the international observers to leave the university square. The security begin to fire teargas bombs onto the steadfast demonstrators despite the presence of the international observers.

3. Clashes with security who were violently beating and attacking students, an injured student was transferred using the observers vehicle.

Security start to treat the observers like the rest of the freedom callers amongst the Syrian people, displaying minor parts of the brutality that the people go through every day all over Syria, a security officer starts attacking and destroying the observers car, who are inside the vehicle and try to escape from him.

4. Amr Abu Risheh roundabout- security forces attack after the observers leave.

5. Al Marjeh- tens of cars filled with security storm the neighbourhood after the freedom callers took off in a large demonstration before Maghrib prayers.

6. Rural Aleppo- Al Baab- a new crime committed in Soosyan village where 25 hectares of wheat crops of were burned, as well as kidnapping a 14 year old girl and two younger children and were sent to the prison in Al Baab.

7. Rural Aleppo- Azaaz- Assad is still violating the Annan peace plan in the city, where arrests, raids and indiscriminate shelling and attacks on peaceful demonstrations are carried out, tanks that have been moved into the city are now firing volleys over the city in an attempt to intimidate people

Demonstrations that had fire opened onto:

1. Aleppo city- Salah Al Din- live gunfire opened onto evening demonstrators, which led to the martyrdom of two people as well as the injury of more than 50 demonstrators, many of which are serious injuries

1. Merdian neighbourhood- gunfire was heard after the demonstration that took place in the square today.

2. Al Atareb- gunfire was aimed at a demonstrator whilst he was filming the Assad thugs

3. Al Atareb- spread of security, thugs and snipers onto the roofs of homes, carrying out sporadic shootings.

4. Azaaz- gunfire opened at night to terrorise and intimidate the citizens.

Demonstrations in the city of Aleppo:

Freedom callers that participated in the demonstrations that the province of Aleppo saw today all came out calling for freedom, to topple the regime and to show solidarity and support of the occupied, besieged and uprising cities, especially Aleppo suburbs, as well as to persevere with the revolution until victory is gained, and to rebuild a better Syria for all. Aleppo university saw amazing demonstrations today during the presence of the international observers.

In the college, a memorial of hafez al assad was smashed and shattered.

Large demonstration in front of the Baath building-

Pro-Assad students throw stones onto anti-government demonstrators, the freedom callers replied ‘peacefully, peacefully we will demonstrate’. Security sealed off the university square from all angles to prevent demonstrators from leaving the campus square and heading towards other freedom square, so the freedom callers remained from the campus square and didn’t leave. Many injuries amongst the freedom callers resulting from the stones that were thrown on them by Assad thugs.

Demonstrations in rural Aleppo:

Similarly to the city of Aleppo, all the demonstrations that came out chanted to topple the regime, for freedom, to execute bashar and to show solidarity with the students of Aleppo university on campus against the atrocities committed by the regime,  as well as to persevere with the revolution until victory is gained, to show support and solidarity with uprising and besieged cities and with the martyrs of this revolution.

3. College of Medicine- sit-in chanting for the release of detained students including ‘Ayman Alnadaaf’ who is a student of the college, then became a demonstration.

4. College of Electrical engineering- large 7meter long banner was hung from the window of the faculty, it read ‘Syria.. We will build a great homeland where we can achieve our dreams, tyrant leave and stop delaying us’
